These four artists bring their individual painting styles and high degree of technical craft to the traditional genre and timeless subject matter of the still life and the landscape, particularly to the coastal and rural landscape specific to Connecticut.

Al Barker's small coastal scenes of the Connecticut shoreline hold a special delight to the viewer for their freshness and luminosity, and the high degree of observation that he brings to each work. Delicate light and color transitions in the sky and along the lush tidal marshes inform his works and are hallmarks of his painting. His nocturnes in the exhibit explore moonlight effects and capture the quiet serenity of the moment. Tidal Marsh Beach at 9 inches by 24 inches is his largest painting in the exhibit. It's a panoramic view of Hammonasset Beach State Park and evokes the specific light, atmosphere and richness of color that the Connecticut shoreline is known for.
