Victor Mays of Clinton, CT, is a retired naval captain and former Fellow of the American Society of Marine artists. Since 1978 he has focused on historically oriented marine watercolors, concentrating on American and British sailing vessels and small craft of the last century. His watercolors are delicately rendered with exquisite detail and are inspired by hundreds of sketches he made over the years as well as from the collection of vintage photographs and reference material he has carefully gathered. His marine paintings have twice received Best in Show Awards and six Awards of Excellence at Mystic Maritime Gallery international exhibitions. His work is in the collections of the Peabody Museum of Salem, the Mystic Seaport Museum, and the Submarine Force Museum. |
