In addition to coastal and western landscapes, Montana artist Nicholas Oberling paints a splendid variety of American bird species among exuberant masses of foliage and flowers. These are realized in meticulous detail with fine art techniques perfected by the old masters. The painterly and imaginative fantasias are ornithologically and botanically correct and accurate to the region they represent. He paints two to three of these paintings each year, and they have become highly sought after.
Nicholas was invited once again this year to be a Quick Draw artist at their 38th Annual C. M. Russell Auction of Original Western Art, March 15 -19, 2006.
He has been a Quickdraw artist and auction participant in previous years at the Russell Auction, the Treasure State Art Auction, and the Montana Land Reliance Auction. He is a regular participant in the C. M. Russell Museum's auction of miniature paintings, in the annual Masters in Montana event, and in invitational auctions on behalf of the Nature Conservancy, the Yellowstone Art Museum, the Hockaday Museum of Art, and the Paris Gibson Square Museum.
He has been Artist in Residence for the Helena National Forest and for Glacier National Park. Nicholas has been the recipient of a Visual Arts Fellowship from the Montana Arts Council and is a founding member of the Montana Painters' Alliance. He is represented by galleries in Massachusetts, Montana, Connecticut, New York, and Indiana.
Nicholas Oberling studied biology and ornithology at Cornell University and studied painting at The Art Students League of New York. He is married to the artist Jennifer Li. His biography is included in Who's Who in America. |
