Laura Winslow

Laura Winslow’s artistic training began early. As a child she learned pastels and watercolors from her mother, Ruth C. Winterbottom. In her late teens she studied watercolor for three years with Edgar Whitney on Long Island. After earning a degree in advertising art from SUNY in Farmingdale, New York, she worked as a staff artist for J. Walter Thompson in NYC and took additional classes at the Art Students League of New York. During this period many of her illustrations sold at Henri Bendel’s. After marrying her husband, Laura worked in advertising agencies in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York and for a local newspaper in Burlington, Vermont. It was while living in Vermont that Laura had the opportunity to study landscape painting with Frank Mason of the Art Students League.

Laura’s distinctive style expresses her love and joy of natural things. Her brushwork is both elegant and confident as she deftly captures a hummingbird or a seashell in the sand. The viewer is rewarded by the vision that brings these fresh, spontaneous, and dynamic interpretations of nature to life. Her watercolors of birds are exceptional for not only describing but celebrating her subject. For the past ten years, in addition to creating her own paintings, Laura has been teaching art to high school students in Indianapolis, Indiana.
