Sandy GarvinGrowing up in the historic art colony of Old Lyme, Sandy Garvin couldn't help but be influenced and inspired by her surroundings. As a young teen, she spent her Saturdays at local artist Bill Steeve's studio where she was introduced to the mysteries of drawing and painting. It was there that she developed a great respet for honoring the creative spirit within.
For the past 25 years, Sandy continued her love affair with painting under many masters. She attended classes at the Lyme Academy of Fine Art, Scottsdale Artist's School in Arizona and many independent workshops and classes inbetween. Greg Kreutz, Joan Potter and Sherrie McGraw stand out as some of her favorite mentors. Interested in abstraction as well as impressionism, she keeps an open mind and heart to differing concepts and approaches. Most often, the skies in late afternoon are what catch her attention. These moments are fleeting however, and what may begin as a quiet painting, sometimes ends up as a bigger statement. Mother Nature has provided an endless variety of subject matter and the idea for Sandy is to capture the mood more than the detail.
Sandy's work can be found in numerous private collections around the world as well as corporate. She has been an Elected Artist member of the Lyme Art Association since 1998 where she also devoted two years as a Co-Artistic Director.
