Stan MoellerThe primary inspiration for Stan Moeller's art is his love of the natural world. A Modern Impressionist, Stan's paintings portray 'the mood of reality,' based on his personal interpretation, rather than technical reality. He seeks to capture the feeling of a place, the movement of air and light, and the textures of the landscape. Comments of one collector, "Stan paints the things we cannnot see."
As a child growing up in rural Indiana, Stan always preferred a blank sheet of paper to a coloring book. He studied painting and life drawing at Western Michigan University. Further studies have included painting on location with his friend and mentor, Don Stone. He believes that painting every day, "en plein air" with other artists, is the best teacher. He continues to self-educate via the writings and styles of Birge Harrison, Robert Henri, John Carlson , and Charles Hawthorne. A highly respected instructor, Stan currently teaches alla prima painting and landscape painting classes, as well as en plein air workshops in the Northeast and abroad. He also teaches landscape painting courses at the New Hampshire Institute of Art, in Manchester. His paintings are represented in both private and corporate collections throughout the country. His recent awards include the "Marine Wildlife Award" at The 25th Annual International Marine Art Exhibition, 2004 for Best Depiction of Wildlife in its Natural Habitat; and a residency in Dinan France (Brittany), by Les Amis De La Grande Vigne, 2003; voted "Best of the Best," York County Coast Star, 2003; and "Second Place," International Artist magazine, "Seascapes, Rivers and Lakes Challenge," issue #25, June/July 2002 for his painting of Gull Rock (Monhegan).
